Founded in Chad in 2016, OHDC emerged from a profound commitment to serve Chad's most vulnerable populations. What began as a small group of passionate individuals has grown into a trusted humanitarian organization reaching thousands of families across the nation.
Through challenging times and inspiring triumphs, we've remained steadfast in our belief that every person deserves access to basic necessities, education, healthcare, and opportunities for growth. Our roots in local communities give us unique insight into the challenges faced by Chadian families.
We envision a Chad where every individual, regardless of their circumstances, has access to essential services and opportunities to thrive. A nation where communities are resilient, self-sufficient, and empowered to shape their own futures.
Our mission is clear: to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance whilst fostering sustainable development that addresses root causes of poverty and vulnerability. We believe in building partnerships that respect local knowledge and promote dignity.

We approach every interaction with empathy and understanding, recognising the inherent dignity of every person we serve.
We work alongside communities, partners, and stakeholders, believing that sustainable solutions emerge from collective wisdom and effort.
We maintain the highest standards of accountability, ensuring donors and communities can trust how resources are utilised.
We continuously seek creative, evidence-based approaches to address complex humanitarian challenges effectively.
When crisis strikes, OHDC mobilizes rapidly to provide life-saving assistance. Our emergency teams deliver essential supplies—clean water, food, shelter, and medical support—to families displaced by conflict or natural disasters.
Strategic partnerships and local teams ensure rapid, scalable aid delivery to the most vulnerable populations during large-scale crises.
Beyond immediate relief, we strengthen community resilience through:
Emergency relief provided in 2023
Average deployment to crisis zones
Trained emergency coordinators
Sustainable development lies at the heart of OHDC's long-term strategy. We work with rural and urban communities to build economic resilience, improve agricultural productivity, and create pathways out of poverty. Our community development programs focus on empowering local leaders, strengthening social cohesion, and fostering inclusive participation in decision-making processes.

Working with communities to identify priorities and opportunities for sustainable development
Training local leaders and providing resources to implement community-led initiatives
Supporting agriculture, water infrastructure, and income-generating activities
Evaluating impact and scaling successful interventions to benefit more communities
Our food security initiatives address both immediate hunger and long-term agricultural sustainability. We provide drought-resistant seeds, training in modern farming techniques, support for irrigation systems, and access to markets. We've helped establish community grain banks, women's cooperatives for food processing, and nutrition education programs that have significantly reduced malnutrition rates in target areas.

Education is the foundation for breaking cycles of poverty and creating lasting change. OHDC operates educational programmes that provide access to quality learning opportunities for children and young people who would otherwise be excluded from formal education systems.
We've constructed and rehabilitated school facilities in remote areas, trained teachers in modern pedagogical approaches, provided learning materials, and established scholarship programmes for vulnerable students, particularly girls.
Our youth empowerment initiatives equip young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship, including vocational training in carpentry, tailoring, mechanics, and technology, alongside soft skills development and business planning support.
Access to quality healthcare remains a critical challenge across Chad. OHDC operates mobile health clinics that reach remote communities, providing primary healthcare services, maternal and child health support, vaccinations, and health education. We've established partnerships with local health centres to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery.
Prenatal care, safe deliveries, postnatal support, child vaccinations, and nutrition monitoring for mothers and children
Clean water access through well construction, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education programmes
Vaccination campaigns, malaria prevention, disease awareness, and epidemic response coordination
Our integrated health programs significantly improve community well-being and health outcomes. Annually, our mobile clinics serve over 25,000 patients in remote areas, providing essential services. These include comprehensive maternal health care (prenatal check-ups, safe delivery support, and postnatal care), vital child vaccinations, and effective treatment for common illnesses like malaria, respiratory infections, and diarrheal diseases.
We also empower dedicated community health workers, who bridge the gap between healthcare systems and remote villages. These local individuals provide basic care, deliver health education on hygiene and nutrition, and facilitate referrals for specialized treatment, fostering trust and sustainable health improvements at the grassroots level.
Vaccination coverage increase
Reduction in child mortality
The escalating conflict in Sudan has led to a significant influx of refugees into eastern Chad, exacerbating an already fragile humanitarian situation. OHDC is at the forefront of this crisis, providing critical, life-saving assistance to thousands of Sudanese refugees. Our comprehensive response aims to meet immediate needs and foster resilience in displaced communities, upholding dignity and ensuring protection for the most vulnerable.

Providing immediate, safe shelter solutions and essential non-food items like blankets, cooking utensils, and hygiene kits to newly arrived families.
Implementing targeted food distributions and nutrition programs, including supplementary feeding for malnourished children and pregnant/lactating women.
Operating mobile clinics and supporting existing health posts to offer primary care, vaccinations, and maternal and child health services.
Establishing temporary learning spaces and safe zones for children, providing psychosocial support, and advocating for their right to education.
Offering specialized protection services, including gender-based violence prevention and response, and legal aid to ensure the safety and rights of refugees.
Since the onset of the crisis, OHDC has scaled up its operations to deliver vital support. Our efforts have focused on reaching remote and underserved areas, ensuring no one is left behind. We work closely with local authorities, international partners, and community leaders to maximize our reach and impact.
Provided emergency aid and services to over 150,000 Sudanese refugees.
Ensured food security with over 75,000 monthly food rations.
Delivered over 50,000 medical consultations in mobile and static clinics.
Supported over 10,000 children to access education and protection services.
Operating in eastern Chad presents significant challenges, including logistical hurdles, resource scarcity, and security concerns. The vast distances and limited infrastructure make humanitarian delivery complex. OHDC addresses these by:
OHDC remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting and assisting Sudanese refugees in Chad, striving to turn despair into hope and ensure a dignified future for all.
Rapid deployment to southern regions affected by severe flooding, providing emergency shelter, clean water, and medical assistance to over 3,000 displaced families
Celebrated the inauguration of three new primary schools in remote villages, bringing education access to 450 children who previously had no nearby facilities
Completed comprehensive vaccination campaign reaching 12,000 children across eight regions, significantly improving immunisation coverage
"Before OHDC came to our village, my daughters had to walk 15 kilometres to attend school. Now, we have a school in our community, and all my children are learning. This has changed everything for our family's future."
— Fatima M., Mother of four, Guéra Region
"The agricultural training and seeds provided by OHDC have transformed our farming practices. Our harvests have doubled, and we now have enough food for our families plus surplus to sell at market. We're no longer dependent on food aid."
— Ibrahim D., Farmer and Community Leader, Kanem Region
